Went to the podiatrist yesterday to try to deal with a several year long problem of plantar fasciitis. It started out fine: she was a nice lady, seemed to know what she was talking about. Then she started berating me for not stretching enough. She made me promise that I’d stretch more. I did, but just to satisfy her. By the end I felt…shamed. And it didn’t at all motivate me to want to stretch more. Mostly I just don’t want to go back to the podiatrist.
Reminds me of what most doctors do to patients who have weight problems – and the stories I hear from many of my patients about their experiences with their doctors. I’ll get back to this in an upcoming post.
